Paediatric Services
The Hospital Paediatric service provides treatment for the full
range of acute and chronic childhood illnesses, for inpatients, day
cases and outpatients. Areas covered include Epilepsy, Cystic
Fibrosis, Diabetes, Dermatology and Asthma allergies. Specialist
Paediatric Nurses work both in the hospital and community in order
to treat patients.
There are specialist clinics carried out jointly with colleagues
from Alder Hey Children's Hospital. A full range of children's
surgery services are provided, and dedicated children's operating
lists are now held in most specialities.

A two-bedded High Dependency Unit is sited on the children's
medical ward, which provides care to children with both surgical
and medical conditions. The special needs of adolescents are also
catered for.
Christopher Wing, a residential facility for parents is sited close
to the Paediatric Ward.
A Specialist Nurse to provide care to children with life
threatening diseases was appointed in April 2003. A team of
Paediatric Nurses and Community Nursery Nurses provide Health Care
and support to children with complex health needs in the community
via the Children's Community Care Package Team.
