Western Cheshire Termination of Pregnancy Service
If you have an unplanned pregnancy and are not sure what to do, visit your GP or a Contraception and Sexual Health clinic for confidential advice.
If you decide that you wish to have an abortion and you are registered with a GP in Western Cheshire, you can access the local Termination of Pregnancy Service. There is a dedicated, confidential, telephone line to make an appointment 01244 362 000 (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5:30pm). You do not need a referral from a health professional to access this service. The service can provide you with:
•a confidential consultation within 2 weeks of first contact
•advice on unplanned pregnancy
•consultation for an abortion
•specialist counselling pre and post abortion
•treatment within 1 week of first consultation
•full sexually transmitted infection testing
•all methods of contraception
This service is provided by the Countess of Chester Hospital for women who are registered with a GP in Western Cheshire.
There are a number of options available to you if you are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, which will be discussed in full at your first consultation. The Countess of Chester Hospital offers medical and surgical abortion up to 13 weeks of pregnancy. Your GP will not be told about the visit unless you agree to it.
You can also contact bpas (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) via a central booking telephone number (0800 403040). Bpas consultations and early medical abortions take place in Chester, with operations carried out in Liverpool or further afield, depending on gestation. This is free of charge under an NHS agreement.
