Dietetics

The Countess of Chester Nutrition and Dietetic department are an
expanding team based primarily at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
We provide dietetic cover to all adult and paediatric wards and
out-patients at the Countess of Chester Hospital as well as
providing a service to Ellesmere Port Hospital, Bowmere Hospital,
adult and adolescent eating disorders, adult and paediatric obesity
services and the community.

The title dietitian can only be used by those appropriately trained
professionals who have registered with the Health Professions
Council (HPC) and whose details are on the HPC website.
If you are an in-patient or an
out-patient at the Countess of Chester Hospital or Ellesmere Port
Hospital you may be referred to the dietetic department by the
medical team or nursing staff. You may be reviewed on the ward
during your stay or as an out-patient. On admission to the hospital
all adults are screened using the Malnutrition Universal Screen
Tool in order to establish whether they are at risk of
malnutrition. In the community, referrals to the dietetic
department can be made via your general practitioner and practice
nurse.
For information on healthy eating and evidence based information
for a range of conditions, please go to the British Dietetic
Association (BDA) web site and check out the Food Facts section.
Please note that any medical condition should be diagnosed by a
doctor and if further advice is required please request a referral
to a dietitian by your general practitioner or consultant.

Are you or is anyone you know interested in becoming a
dietitian?
