Sir James Sharples QPM DL

Sir James was appointed to the Trust in January 2001 as a
Non-Executive Director and was subsequently appointed by the Board
of Governors as Chairman of the Trust on 1st July 2005.
He served as a police officer for 35 years, retiring in 1998
after ten years as Chief Constable of Merseyside Police. During
that period he was involved at national level in the development of
policing policy and has extensive experience of the local and
national government scene.

He was heavily involved in developing policy in the field of
community relations, equal opportunities and firearms. Jim has held
a number of posts in various bodies. He was County Director of the
St John's Ambulance Service for Merseyside, a Council member of the
Economic and Social Research Council, and other bodies.
