Medical Director and Director of Infection Prevention & Control
Dr Virginia Clough

Dr Clough commenced her role as Medical Director and Director of
Infection Prevention & Control in April 2008.
She was appointed as the first consultant haematologist in
Chester in 1984 and she progressively developed the laboratory and
clinical service, working single handedly until 1993. The
department now has three consultants and a Mersey Specialist
Registrar, to whom Dr Clough is the educational supervisor. Dr
Clough became examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists in
2002 and in 2006/7 helped write the new national examination. She
has been a Medical Staff Committee representative on the Clinical
Excellence Awards Committee since 2000.
Dr Clough has been a passionate fundraiser, culminating in the
opening of the state of the art Haematology & Oncology Suite in
May 2007, financed entirely by the B Positive fundraising
campaign.
