Delivering same sex accommodation

Our aim is to maintain your privacy and dignity at all times and we are proud to confirm that mixed sex accommodation has been virtually eliminated in our hospital.

By making these considerations our priority, we're on our way to making your hospital experience as comfortable as possible through the delivering of the 'Same Sex Accommodation' project.

Patients who are admitted to our hospitals will only share the room where they sleep with members of the same sex, and same sex toilets and bathrooms will be close to their bed area. Sharing with members of the opposite sex should only happen by exception based on clinical need for example where patients need specialist equipment such as in Critical Care, or when patients choose to share for instance in our Renal Unit.

There is work in progress to further ensure that the goals set out above are realised and there may be rare occasions when patients share facilities with members of the opposite sex. This is most likely to happen in areas where an environmental redesign is in progress to enable our full compliance.
