Who we are
Head of Catering Services Craig Hough and head chef Sue Miller lead a 75-strong team that prepares fresh home-cooked meals every day for patients, visitors and staff.
The service prides itself on the provision of excellent food, using locally-sourced ingredients, for great value at both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital.

The team also provides all vending services, special function catering, a Coffee Shop and Newsagents. An In-House Sandwich Production Unit produces sandwiches every day.
People should expect a high-quality service that is responsive to individual dietary requirements or tastes, with nutritious meals that are cooked traditionally, designed to aid recovery and delivered within a specified time at the appropriate temperature. The menu is selected to cover a wide variety of tastes, but the team is more than happy to meet patients and discuss any specific requests - above all, they want you to enjoy your food.
The service is committed to quality assurance. All staff complete a full induction process prior to working within the service and training and development plays plays a vital role in the provision of our service.
The Countess NHS Foundation Trust is committed to providing the highest level of care possible for our patients and this without question includes the quality and nutritional value of the food that is served and eaten. We also have a responsibility to our staff and visitors to provide wholesome, healthy and nutritious food. We know that there are strong links between staff experience and patient outcomes so investing in having a healthy workforce will ultimately benefit patients.
We also have a wider social responsibility. As a major purchaser and provider of food and catering service, we have the opportunity to put sustainability at the heart of our work. This includes reducing waste, embedding high standards of food production and reducing our carbon footprint.

The 184-seated staff restaurant service is popular among staff, with revenue increasing year-on-year. The service is open between 8am and 7.30pm with the exception of 11am to 12pm when it is closed during the Patient Meal Service. There is also a Deli Bar open Monday-Friday 12-2pm where you can select your own bread and fillings.
There is a 50-seated coffee shop area to the left of the main reception serving hot drinks and warm snacks. The service is open between 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
The service, which is in the Education and Training Centre, is open between 9.30am and 1.30pm on weekdays.
