Research & Innovation

Since the introduction of the NHS Operating Framework in 2008/09 the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has greatly increased recruitment to trials. In 2008/09 recruitment stood at 178 but by 2011/12 the figure had increased to 1143.

Considerable improvement and progress has been achieved in integrating research into clinical service in the Trust and we continually endeavour to drive this forward through the highly motivated research team, both keen research active clinicians and hardworking research nurses.

We aim to make research and innovation easily accessible to all stakeholders. If you would like to learn more about research and innovation at the Countess of Chester Hospital please contact:

What do we do?

Research and innovation within the Trust is supported by the Research and Innovation Department and the Research and Innovation Committee.

The Research and Innovation Committee oversees the management of research and innovation within the Trust. Associate Director Steve Bridge ensures Trust compliance with research governance and along with the Research and Innovation Team helps provide day to day support and guidance.

The Research and Innovation Department:

  • Advises and assists researchers undertaking research projects locally and nationally. Gives support with design and planning of your project, methodology and utilisation of unique software.
  • Advises on ethics application and Trust research and innovation approval. All research projects, commercial and non-commercial, are registered on a Trust database and progress is monitored throughout the life of the project.
  • On a quarterly basis non-commercial research is entered onto the National Research Register and available nationally on the web for reference.
