Countess Gem of the Month... The Jubilee Nursing Team
Deputy ward managers Clare Shaw and David Wilson-Jones are both immensely proud after their Jubilee Nursing Team was named the first ‘Countess Gem of the month’.
As a group they put in a tremendous effort during heightened escalation for the intense winter pressures experienced at the hospital, re-fitting and staffing recovery areas with extra beds to provide additional capacity.
They are the first winners of the new ‘Countess Gems’ staff recognition scheme, which encourages employees from all areas to put colleagues forward they believe deserve special praise.
“Myself and Clare are extremely proud and lucky to lead such a fantastic and adaptable team,” David said. “We were all happy to be able to help the Trust at such a busy time.”
He added: “We must also recognise the help and support given to us by the medical team, in particular Clinical Site Co-ordinator Michelle Kose, Co-ordination Centre Programme clinical lead Chris Owen, Falls Prevention Project Co-ordinator Stephen Worrall, Core Medical Trainee (CMT) Dr Sarah Flatley and Consultant Dr Tim Webster.”
Clare explained that the logistics of transforming what is normally a recovery area for people after operations also required a great deal of support from colleagues in Facilities, Stores and Pharmacy so they might have won the award but it represents a unified effort from many people in the hospital.
“I echo what David has said and it means a lot to receive recognition,” Clare said. “The team showed great ability to adapt and care for patients. I’m very proud to be part of this team and the wider hospital.”
Executive Director of People and Organisational Development Sue Hodkinson said: “Many Congratulations to our Jubilee Nursing Team who have been named our first Countess Gem of the month! We know that all of our staff have been extremely busy this winter and that everyone has gone above & beyond the call of duty to care for our patients, but the Jubilee team reacted quickly and showed outstanding support to all the wards and ED teams at an exceptionally difficult time.”
About Countess Gems
‘Countess Gems’ are a monthly recognition awards scheme at the Countess of Chester Hospital, with members of staff nominating colleagues who they think deserve special praise. Every person/team nominated officially becomes a ‘Countess Gem’ with a certificate and a note letting them know why they have been nominated. Once a month the leadership group reviews all the nominations and selects an overall winner. This team/individual will then receive £125 to spend with in-house Catering Services to celebrate. The Countess Gems awards are funded through donations from patients and families in thanks for the care they have received (charitable funds).
