Position regarding Cheshire and Merseyside Sustainability and Transformation Plan
Please see below the regional position following media speculation in regards to the future of our hospitals, in which we clarify there are no current plans to close The Countess.
We can confirm that there are no current plans to develop a single site hospital for Wirral and Cheshire. However, all options to achieve clinical and financial sustainability are being considered as part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) development process. A range of suggestions may be discussed in meetings but then not included in the final STP document. We need to do this initial work before we are in a position to formally release the STP document. The STP is a combination of work already in place across Cheshire and Merseyside as a response to the Five Year Forward View. The process has given us an opportunity to take a strategic view across Cheshire and Merseyside based on patient flows. The intention is to have a set of clinical standards across Cheshire and Merseyside to ensure consistent quality services across the area, improve health outcomes and to reduce unwarranted variation. There will be an increased need for health providers to collaborate more than they have done previously, however, the details are at an early stage of development so therefore not in a position to be shared at this time. It will be crucial that local leaders and the public have the opportunity to give their views so we can improve the quality of the STP plan and most importantly the quality of services and health outcomes. As part of the submission we will be clear about the timeline for engagement and consultation.
