The North Wales Neonatal Network Donor Milk Hub (a collaboration of organisations including The Milk Bank at Chester) has been shortlisted for the NHS Wales Sustainability Awards in the Sustainability Network or Community category.
The North Wales Neonatal Service Donor Milk Hub, which opened at Glan Clwyd in September 2024, brings donor milk to families at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Ysbyty Gwynedd, and Wrexham Maelor Hospital, cutting down delivery miles and making milk access faster and more sustainable.
This partnership is not only saving time but making a significant environmental impact as well.
In just five months, the new hub has reduced deliveries by over 1000 miles, saving on fuel, reducing emissions, and ensuring timely deliveries.
This achievement highlights the tireless work done by The Milk Bank at Chester in partnership with Ysbyty Glan Clwyd [Glan Clwyd Hospital] and Blood Bikes Wales to create a more sustainable NHS in Wales.
The Milk Bank at Chester serves 70 neonatal units across the UK and has been providing services to North Wales since 2003.
