Palliative care

The Consultant-led Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team provides an advisory and supportive service whilst the medical and nursing management of the patient remains the responsibility of the ward team. Access to the Specialist Palliative Care service is on the basis of need not diagnosis. It is available not exclusively for patients with cancer but also to those with life-limiting non-malignant diseases.

Outpatient clinic and home visits are designed to facilitate the transfer of the patient from the curative to the palliative approach of their incurable illness

  • Specialist palliative care beds are located at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Backford
  • Participates in Cancer Network Programmes / Meetings
  • Strong links with the Hospice of the Good Shepherd
