SDEC
Welcome to Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
We provide same day urgent assessment, tests, diagnosis and treatment for patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital.
Patients can only attend SDEC if they are referred by a healthcare professional.
Where is SDEC?
Same Day Emergency Care is located at the front of the hospital, adjacent to the Emergency Department. If you have been referred by your GP or have an appointment in SDEC please go straight to the SDEC reception desk where we will be expecting you.
Can I just turn up?
No, this is not possible. You must have an appointment or referral to SDEC.
How long will my visit take?
The length of time you will spend in SDEC will depend on which investigations or treatments you need. More complicated tests and treatments might require you to be with us all day.
What should I bring with me?
- Any paperwork given to you by your GP.
- A list of medications that you are currently taking.
- You may want to bring something to eat and drink with you. There is a Costa café in the main hospital and refreshments can also be bought from the drink and snack dispensers within SDEC.
- You may want to bring something to read, or a device with headphones. The hospital has free WIFI that you can access. Any property that you choose to bring will remain your responsibility.
Car parking
Please use the main public care parks signposted on arrival to the Countess of Chester Health Park. Our public car parks operate on a camera-controlled ‘pay on exit’ system and parking fees apply 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Limited blue badge parking is available immediately outside SDEC.
