National accreditation awarded to our Anaesthetics Department
We’re proud to announce that our Anaesthetics Department has once again been awarded national ACSA accreditation by the Royal College of Anaesthetists — a mark of excellence that confirms we meet the highest standards of safety, care, and quality.
This accreditation, awarded through the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) scheme, is not automatic. It is granted following a rigorous, peer-reviewed assessment led by senior clinicians and patient representatives. The process evaluates every aspect of anaesthetic service delivery – including clinical safety, equipment, patient care, communication, and staff training and development.
Being ACSA-accredited means you can expect:
- Safe, consistent, high-quality care at every stage of your treatment
- Expert anaesthetic staff you can trust
- Ongoing audits and improvements to make sure we’re always delivering the best possible service
Whether you’re coming in for planned surgery, emergency treatment, or maternity care, this recognition means you can be confident you’re in expert hands.
Only 31% of anaesthetic departments across the UK currently hold ACSA accreditation. Our team is proud to be part of that select group — and even prouder to contribute to the North West’s strong record of clinical excellence, as one of the most accredited regions in the country.
This achievement is the result of hard work, dedication, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Dr Mary Cardwell (pictured, centre) led the team through the accreditation process. The official ACSA plaque was awarded during a recent visit by Dr Sri Gummaraju from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
