Finding out your are pregnant

You can purchase pregnancy tests from lots of places, such as pharmacies and supermarkets. It’s best to wait until your period is late before you test to make sure you get an accurate result, but there are more sensitive tests available that will give you an answer a little earlier.

If you have a positive pregnancy test you can contact us without going to see your General Practitioner (GP) first.

If you would like to have your baby with us, please ring our booking line on 01244 363487 and leave your name, date of birth, telephone number, address, and what language you prefer to speak if it is not English. Our team will then contact you within 1 week (Monday-Friday) to make an appointment for you to see a midwife. We encourage you to do this as early as possible to ensure that your first screening and ultrasound appointment is not delayed.

If the pregnancy test is negative, it’s best to wait a few days and then try again. If your period doesn’t start and your tests are still negative, please see your GP.

You might decide that you do not want to continue with your pregnancy, or you might be unsure. You are not alone and there is lots of support available for you. You can get impartial help and advice from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service https://www.bpas.org/
